If you’re staying in New York this winter you might enjoy these winter-themed activities.

  • Consider watching a “Disney on Ice” show. This amazing presentation features ice skating, music and special effects that will transport you into a magical winter wonderland. “Disney on Ice” is presenting “Frozen” in the NYC area between January 3rd and 19th, 2019.
  • Enjoy ice skating: Outdoor rinks offer the opportunity to enjoy NY sights. Skating at Rockfeller Center and Central Park are traditional outdoor skating spots.
  • Indoor skating rinks are perfect for skaters who prefer not to brave the cold weather. Chelsea Piers and Riverbank State Park are good indoor options.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Visitors to New York can enjoy the 92nd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Over 3.5 million people are expected to attend the display of balloon and floats.

The parade will take place along a 2.5 mile stretch in NYC, and also features performers, bands and clowns. This year, there will be 16 giant character balloons and a total of 1,350 handlers!

For those who want to get a head start, stop by to watch the balloons being inflated outside of the American Museum of Natural History.

Visitors should be prepared for cold weather as the expected outdoor temperature is 40 degrees.

The Newly Renovated Evelyn Hotel

If you’re looking for a luxurious and relaxing NY experience, the Evelyn Hotel, part of Triumph Hotels, is the place to visit.

As of November 14th, the hotel features impressive upgrades after a multimillion-dollar renovation.

The 159 guest rooms at the Evelyn Hotel have been upgraded with new linen, lighting and updated bathrooms. Creative and whimsical decorations such as music notes painted on bathroom tiles are now part of the lovely décor.

The lobby has been transformed with velvet seating and softly lit sitting areas.

The hotel now has three new restaurants by chef Jonathan Benno. One is Leonelli Taberna, a relaxed Roman-inspired trattoria with a bar. Leonelli Focacceria e Pasticceria is a cafe and bakery with a mezzanine-level library. The fine-dining restaurant, Benno, features Mediterranean fare.

CANstruction in New York

For an unusual and inspiring activity, stop by New York’s CANstruction exhibit at Brookfield Place, NY.

Canstruction is an extraordinary annual design competition that combines charity and creativity. Teams of architects, contractors, and engineers build sculptures out of cans of food. These large-scale structures are placed on display and later donated to charity.

This year, Canstruction is celebrating its 26th Anniversary in New York with 30 teams building displays. Awards will be granted in several categories, including Best Original Design, Most Cans, and Structural Ingenuity.

This event is open to the public. Admission is free, although visitors are asked to donate a can of food. At the end of the exhibit, all canned food will be donated to charity.
